Our story
Spared to serve the children of Cambodia
After the Pol Pot regime killed 1.7 million people, it ended in 1979. God opened the door for those He spared to minister to His people in Kompong Chhnang Province. Since 1988, the Cambodian Children Ministry has walked alongside children and families there, helping them know, love, serve, share, and worship God.
The need
In Melum Commune, more than 450 children and youth struggle to stay in school. They are growing up in poor families without enough financial, educational, and emotional support.
Our response
For years the children met for weekly activities under the cashew trees, praying for a center of their own. Through the gifts of churches and individuals, the first Cambodian Children's Center was built, and the work continues to grow.
What happens at the Center
Faith, learning, and care for the whole family
Worship & Bible study
Weekly worship and Bible studies for children and youth, led by the Center's pastors and youth leaders.
English & computer classes
Khmer–English lessons and a computer lab where students earn Microsoft Office certificates.
Nutrition
Fresh fish from the Center's pond and vegetables from its garden feed the children's nutrition program.
Families
School supplies, Christmas gifts, family visits, and scholarships that help young people stay in school.
Founder & missionary
Rev. Peter V. Im
Rev. Im is a survivor of the Killing Fields. In 1988 he was called to the Cambodian Ministry at First Baptist Church of Portland, Oregon. He served as a missionary with the Children's Ministry in Cambodia from 2004 to 2012, and on the board of the Cambodian Ministry for Christ International from 1993 to 2009.
